This workshop begins with basic information and instruction on how to play a Djembe (West African) drum, including proper hand and body placement, how to produce various types of sounds, and how to use those sounds to create specific traditional rhythms. With this introduction, in just 20 minutes, everyone is able to play rhythms together.

Matthew incorporates relevant aspects of awareness into the experience: listening, compassion, breath, gratitude, stillness, meditation, mental/emotional health and well-being. If you appreciate the power of sound and community, join us! No experience necessary. Ages 13 and up. Drums are provided.
